" I KNEW IT, DON'T TALK TO ME AGAIN " Celeste hung up, screaming at Melody who face-palmed herself, letting out a frustrated sigh. Just when Melody was about to have a dinner with her bestfriend whom she was postponing for months now, but fate really had other plans. Within a second, the bell rang, indicating the order's ready to be delivered so she slipped the phone into her pocket and grabbed the order and the slip with the address. Without sparing the slip a glance, she hurriedly dashed towards her scooter to do this as fast as possible.
Melody’s eyes burst out of their sockets when she spared the address a glance and realized she had to drive for at least an hour to cover up the 10 kilometers to reach her destination. Melody was reluctant to let this go as she looked at her boss, ready to start an argument but decided to let it go after seeing a stressed face looking back at her.
" I want a bonus for this, " Melody was nowhere near letting this go as she let her boss/uncle know that she was supposed to receive a reward for a tiring order, so he nodded along with her demand, knowing she wasn’t at fault.
Melody took off after placing the order safely in the storage of her bike and riding off to a destination she dreaded to go at this time of the night. She was more frustrated at canceling the plan she and her best friend had planned a month before just to execute it without anyone canceling, and here she was, ditching her best friend just to keep her job, what else she could do, though? It was the only way for her to make a living.
~ At The Destination
" Woah " Melody was in awe when she saw the address was of a mansion, a palace, actually. However, now, she was able to understand the meaning behind her boss’s words.
" No wonder he said they shouldn't be offended " Melody mumbled while taking the package out of the storage. She left her bike and quickly rang the bell of the house as the sound echoed through the massive walls.
" Who is this? " Melody heard from an intercom installed right beneath the bell, as she grinned at the advancement the mansion had, not realizing she was actually living in the 21st Century.
" Delivery from the 'Unity Medico' "
After hearing acknowledgment from the old lady behind the intercom, Melody waited for her to open the door while silently imagining herself living in such a mansion and being like the princess her grandma always made her be and so Melody stepped back a little when she heard the door opening.
" Hello, how much? " The woman literally had a bundle of cash in her hand as Melody shook herself back to reality after her brain almost convinced her to rob the old lady and run away.
" 10 dollars and 68 cents with delivery charges " The lady nodded and took out the amount of cash Melody was stunned to even process.
" Here you go " The old lady handed Melody 20 dollars as Melody debated inside her head, wondering what next step to take as her mind was still processing the massive place.
" Umm... I'm sorry ma'am, I don't have change on me right now "
" Oh no no dear, That's the tip," She said while Melody looked at her, contemplating whether the old lady joking or was she actually serious, but through such a poker face, she couldn’t pinpoint a single thing. However, she still carried out her job and handed over the package and before she could let out a single word, the lady shut the door as Melody turned around with a huge smile on her face.
Melody happily sat on her bike only for it to shut off in an instant Melody cursed under her breath, not wanting to deal with this kind of mess for now. Melody tried again and again but had no luck, she almost slapped herself when she saw the fuel tank empty.
She took the phone out and almost threw it away in a fit of anger when she saw the dead phone with her disappointed expression reflecting back on the screen. She wanted nothing more than to get the hell out of the scary place and make it to her comfy bed, however, it was quite certain the universe had other plans for her.
" Oh, really, right now? In the middle of nowhere? " She looked up at the sky, arguing with whoever was handling her life events. She started to think of ideas to get back home and after pondering over many ideas to get back home, she knew the safest way was to get the old lady's help. With that, she went back and rang the bell with shaky hands.
" Who is it? " Once again, the intercom, as Melody fought back her childish urge to play with the thing.
" Hi, uhhh, this is still the delivery girl, actually my bike has run out of gas and my phone is dead too, I have no other way to go back home, can you please do me a favor and let me use a charger if you have any so I can call a cab? " Melody asked as politely as she could despite her frustration at the situation. She heard the other side go dead silent and she took that as a cue for her to 'deal with it on her own.'
" Yeah sure, I'll open the door " Surprisingly, the old lady was polite enough to offer a helping hand to the whiny frustrated young woman who was on the edge of having a mental breakdown. She heard the door open as she made her way inside after the lady’s gesture to call her in.
" I'll get you a charger. " And with that, she left and came back in a minute with a power bank in her hand while Melody mentally thanked god for the wonderfully helpful lady. To think, she was just seconds ago cursing the universe for almost ruining her life.
" Thank you so much " She handed the bank to her and asked Melody if she wanted a room to rest in but she declined, saying she'll just leave in a bit.
" Okay, do you want something? Water or anything? " She asked as Melody fought back wanting to go and hug her.
" No no, it's okay, really " The lady nodded with a smile and left her in the living room of the huge mansion she could only dream about having.
" I wonder if she lives here alone " Melody whispered to herself, staring at the chandelier above her. Just as she was about to turn the phone on, she heard a loud thud coming from upstairs and debated for a second, if she should go or not. She quickly rushed upstairs, leaving the mobile on the table, not wanting the old lady to be hurt. She saw a door slightly open from afar. She ran towards the door and opened it carefully so she doesn't scare her away.
" Ma’am, are you okay? Are you hurt? " She asked but no voice came back in return. She pushed the door fully open and saw someone sitting among the shreds of glass around them. She hurriedly walked towards her to help her up. Because of her habit, she accidentally closed the door behind her.
" Let me help you up " She held her hand and realized it was nothing like an old lady’s or even a woman’s hand, instead, it was a man's hand. Melody retreated and focused on the face of the person under the moonlight insided a dark room.
She kept a safe distance from him, knowing he was drunk by the sickly smell of alcohol on him.
" H-help me up " He barely whispered, but thanks to Melody's hearing, she heard him. She nodded and carefully walked towards him and held his hand to help him up.
" At least stand on your own feet, you giant-, " She said and like an obedient dog, he did but as soon as he stood up, he landed all his weight on her, making her quickly place his arm on her shoulder to steady him.
Melody got away from the broken pieces of glass and sat him on the bed, trying to make sure to stay away from the broken glass so she doesn’t have to curse at the universe once again. She thought he would fall on the bed but surprisingly, he was sitting straight.
" I-I'll call the lady for you, " She said and took a few steps to leave but was held back by him grabbing her arm. Even though she was shocked at his swift movements, an electric shock ran through her body, giving her a feeling she could never even think of.
" Stay with me, " She heard his drunk husky voice say and she was more than sure he was imagining things she didn’t want to be a part of. Just when she was about to throw a rude remark toward him, the moonlight showed his perfect features and she was under his spell in a second. His facial features were complimented with the moonlight, displaying the most beautiful man Melody has ever seen.
" I'm not who you think I am " She gathered the strength to say but regretted it as soon as she said that because this guy right here was a piece of art. Perfect jawline, symmetrical lips, flawless collarbone, and hazel brown eyes, just perfection! As Melody thought.
" You're beautiful, " This is the first time, some guy has called Melody beautiful, she had never dated before, and she was single for as long as she could remember. This man himself was handsome yet beautiful and he was here, staring into Melody’s soul with his sparkly eyes as if she was all that he needed.
Without uttering another word, she made her way toward the door, but the hunk here had different plans for her. She was yanked back by him and was now on top of him, lying on his rock-hard chest, feeling his muscles under her fingertips, she started to feel the heat creeping up on her when she hasn't drunk even a bit of alcohol yet she felt like she was drunk. She started to wiggle herself out of his rock hold, however, for a drunk man, he was quite strong.
" I love you " Melody struggled to get out of his grip, completely ignoring the 3 most affectionate words falling out from a stranger’s mouth, knowing if she stayed a second more, she'd fall under his seductive gaze. She just wanted to get back home and lay down on her soft bed and doze off, but from the looks of it, she wasn’t going to get any sleep tonight.
" Sir, you're drunk, will you let me go and call someone here? " She said and continued to move so she could get out. The next thing he said, shook her world.
"But I'm drunk for you, babe"
