After getting ready to work around 7 o'clock, I met one of my coworkers, Jayden. A tall, slim guy who came from Asia to California, quiet and always frowning but jovial when you get close to him, very handsome, and an expert in cooking. I was informed that we will be having an enormous reservation today.
"Hey, good morning, early bird. Tell me you didn't sleep at all.” I said, smiling. Jaiden only chats with me, though we have many workers, and I'm the only one he used to chat with continuously. Everyone thought he was cold and scary, and that's true. You never know how cool and funnier he is until you get close to him.
“Good morning; well, I'm not the one who got caught up in the traffic." Jaiden's sarcasm did not lose on me.
“Yeah, smartass, thank you for reminding me of my terrible journey," I said, and he just grunted.
“So what is on reservation because the way Josh said it as if we're having entire California in the restaurant?” I said, yawning.
“Big enough for us to faint in the kitchen, you know I don't know that Josh can smile until this morning?” Jaiden said, laughing.
“You've got to be kidding me?” I said eye-wide.
“No, I'm not; I know you won't believe me either." jaiden said
“Wow, that's surprising because that is like a dead face with no smile.”
“Yeah, same here.”
“Coffee, what kind of coffee do you drink?” Jaiden asked
“I don't do coffee,” I said. Jaiden froze and looked at me, dumbfounded.
“What!?” I asked
“You're shitting me, right?”
“No, I'm serious.”
“Who doesn't like or drink coffee?”
"Well, obviously, coffee makes me weak." He didn't look convinced by the way he looked at me.
“You want to tell me the reason why you don't drink coffee?” He asked
“No reason; I just don't feel connected to it." I lied
“Start your day with hot or iced coffee; depend on the one you love most, and have a productive day ahead. I'm telling you, just taste it, and there's different kinds of coffee, and you get to taste them all since we make it in the restaurant,” he said cheerfully.
“Okay, maybe next time, and obviously not today, Mr. Preacher,” I said while I groused at him, and he laughed, which made me join him.
“So what time is the reservation?” I asked
“Don't you read the email Josh sent you?” He asked pointedly. I roll my eyes at him.
"Don't really; just know that we got some kind of big reservation today, and I didn't check the remaining because I knew I'd meet you here." I said
“Hmm, that seems logical,” he growled.
“What now? Just answer the damn question!”. I groused
“Okay, the big reservation is at 7:00 p.m.,” he said. It seems I will still work late today, and why the heck did they pick that time instead of coming when the sky is still clear? Gosh, all these celebrities and businessmen with their annoying time.
“Are you even listening to me?” Jaiden asked, jolting me from my thoughts with a narrowed
“Uhm...” I lied because I was already in my own thoughts.
“God …. Just listen, okay, because I know you ain't fucking listening,” he groaned.
“Whatever, continue,” I mumble.
“So the big reservation is at 7:00 p.m., but we have to start preparing by 5 p.m. and send all our guests out by 4 p.m. All the guests we must have today before the time must not be less than twenty, so we will have to reclean the restaurant and start preparing,” he explained.
“Seems logical, but what the hell with not less than twenty guests?" I almost shouted.
“Hey, cut your wings; I'm not your boss or manager who makes the rule,” he said, laughing.
“Yeah, right, at least you should have let him know that the reservation we got yesterday night before we closed was twenty, so no new reservation today, is what you're telling me?. I said
"Yes, ma'am,” he said, smiling.
“Not funny; this is fucking crazy,” I said, sighing.
“Yeah, I guess,” he said.
“So that big reservation is for how many people?” I asked.
“Josh didn't mention the number; he just said we should prepare enough and different varieties." He explained calmly.
“Seriously, ugh,” I groaned loudly.
“Stop being a prick; maybe if you drink coffee, you will feel better,” he said.
“Gotcha, I will pass,” I said, leaving the kitchen to check our first guest's name since the manager has yet to arrive.
“Good morning, Lucy." I greeted her, smiling.
“Morning to you too; I'm sorry for being late; it's that stupid traffic,” she said, looking pained.
“Nah, I just got here too late, and besides, I'm not the manager." I said. This is Lucy's first time, and she already came late. She should thank God that the manager is not around. Because that psychopath will make her regret ever working in this restaurant.
“ Okay”. She said she was relieved.
“But I will advise you not to come late tomorrow if you don't want to kiss your job goodbye because that man is heartless,” I said.
"Oh, okay, thank you." She said she was leaving immediately to change into work attire.
“Good morning, Mr. Johnson. I will like to show you to your seat." I said, smiling at the old couples. After showing them to their seats and serving them, our other guests started to show up. Our restaurant has always been crowded; it's a big restaurant we're talking about, and the food is lively and delicious. By 3:00 pm, almost all the guests are gone; there is no need to chase them out. At 4:00 p.m. sharp, we started preparing for the big day by recleaning and mopping everywhere and getting everything ready. By 6:20 p.m., everywhere is shining and glowing. At 6:50 p.m., all of us gathered to welcome our guests when they arrived. At 7:00 p.m., two black-shining lamborghini stop at the front of the restaurant. I nearly fainted because the car was so good to look at. I must say this person is crazily rich.
“Oh my God." Lucy said, her eyes wide.
"Wow,” I and other coworkers say at the same time. This is beyond “wow.”. Three people come out of the car: two from one, a man and a woman, and one man from another. All of us are looking at each other knowingly, like these are the three people that are coming, and I'm expecting half of California. Not what all of us expected because the food we prepared is too much for just three people. Not long after, the manager arrived to welcome them and show them inside. Two handsome guys, one with dark, thick hair and ocean blue eyes, are 6’7 tall and have a giant body. A chiselled and well-proportioned nose, skin smooth as porcelain. I've never met anyone as handsome and attractive as him in my life. The second guy has dark blue eyes and is also handsome, and one other very beautiful young girl.
After showing them to their seats, not long after my manager called me to be their service waitress tonight, I was so nervous because I didn't want to make mistakes. It seems like they're very powerful people. I started explaining some varieties to them, and only then did I notice a familiar face. Air left my lungs for a second, and I froze.
