Chapter 1 - Sad wedding Bells

On that Saturday morning, when my life changed drastically.I had woken with an unusual excitement that morning,it was like the best day of my life.I was a late wakener but surprisingly I had risen with the sun. The room was filled with light which was surprising because it had rained heavily the previous night but I was grateful. The clear weather was a sign that the Moon goddess was on my side but I was mistaken.

From my room, I could perceive the aroma of fried eggs and bacon. It was the breakfast I had told the chef to prepare for me in preparation for my great day. I looked across my room as a smile formed on my face,My wedding dress stood looking elegant on the dummy.

It was a simple but yet fancy dress, my dad had asked the designer to make something simple but elegant. The bridal gown was made of hundreds of scraps of silk embroidered with silken thread, the V- shaped neckline was entirely my idea and it looked magnificent as it dazzled when rays of sunlight shone on its pears.

I held the dress to my chest as I wished my mother was here just to help me wear it, she would have been proud to see me walk down the aisle but looking at the events that followed my life, I was glad she wasn't there to witness her daughter go through that.

As I admired the beautiful wedding dress,  I thought of my father and I thought of checking up on him.

I quickly entered the bathroom and brushed my teeth immediately before going to meet my father in his room.I hated my bad morning breath and I will always brush before leaving my room each morning.

He was up already and was sipping from the tea cup which had black coffee in it. He was still on his robe which could only mean that he had woken up not too long ago.

"Good morning father," I greeted as I moved to hug him, distracting him from the book he was reading.

"Matilda my dear, how is my lovely daughter doing?" He asked, squeezing my both cheeks making them turn red.

"I'm really excited father,Thank you for granting my request." I said excitedly.

"You know I will always do anything to make you happy." He added.

" Yes I know that, father."

" Now hurry up and change, I have ordered the best designers and make-up artists today.I just wished your mum was here to witness her daughter getting married." He said and I had the feeling that he would cry at any time.

"Yes I really miss her, father but I'm glad that you're with me." I had a smile as I hugged him again but it was tighter and with tears.

"Matilda, don't cry. You know I can't stand you crying. I never want to see tears on your face." He advised.

I could only nod and smile.

" Now go and start preparing, I will meet you soon." That was my father's way of saying he was busy and had something to do.

I walked away but not to my room, I walked to the garden where I spend most of my life. I was the only child of my father who was an Alpha ruler, he ruled the strongest pack and was known as the most fearful Alpha because of the way he ruled.I didn't have many friends. Although my father didn't stop me from doing anything I wanted, in fact he gave me total liberty to live life how I wanted. It was still difficult getting a friend who treated me like a special friend and not like the Alpha's daughter.

I heard footsteps and turned my head quickly and my eyes met with Aurora. She was to be my bridesmaid today. Aurora was a childhood friend but we weren't close at all but She had always loved me and treated me as one.

" You're up so early, did the alarm clock wake you up?" She asked with a beautiful smile. She was beautiful and sometimes I envied her beauty.

" No, I woke up by myself without the help of the alarm." I answered, she got closer and sat next to me. My eyes quickly caught the box she was holding.

" What's that in your hands?"I asked puzzled.

"Oh this…it's for you." She said as she handed the box to me.I was wondering where it came from, it wasn't wrapped in a fancy gift bag so I couldn't just assume it was my wedding gift.

I opened it in fear, to my amazement it contained a note and a pendant.

I opened the note immediately, it read: " A beautiful necklace as a token of my love."

That was it, I turned the note over to check if there was a name, but it was empty.

I looked at the necklace, it was crescent shaped  and had expensive stones imprinted on it.

" Who could this be from?" I asked Aurora.

" I don't know, the maid gave it to me when I went to your room to look for you. But who knows it might be your crush." She added with a sneer.

" Could it be Ethan?" I asked again. I just couldn't think of anyone at that time. I didn't have admirers that were known.

" Maybe yes and maybe no." She sounded convinced with her answer.

" You're scaring me and making me anxious, Aurora." I said, my heart beat had increased rapidly and I didn't know why.

" Okay…I'm sorry about that. The only way to find who sent it is to wait for someone who had the other half of the pendant." She advised me.

It sounded stupid but that was the only option. Whosoever sent it must have kept the remaining half of the pendant, I looked at it closer. It was a lovers' pendant and the only option left was to wait patiently for the owner to show up. But till then, I just had to keep it safe.

"Good morning my lady, your father requests your presence at the dining table." A maid interrupted.

" Okay, take this box. Drop it in my room and please prepare my bath." I ordered and gestured to Aurora to follow me.

"Good morning, Alpha ruler." Aurora greeted us with a bow immediately as soon as we entered the dining room.

I sat down while the maid served me, it took me some minutes to realize that Aurora was still standing shaking at Intervals.

"Aurora?" I called out," Don't just stand there. Join us for breakfast."

"No, don't worry…I have taken breakfast. I will be in your room if you need me." And off she went, before I could say a thing.

"Did I scare your friend?" My father asked as he munched his toast.

"I guess so. But father, can I ask a question?"

" Sure my dear." He answered as he looked up to me.

" Why do people think you're a scary being?"

He was just about to answer when a maid entered and bowed.

" Sorry Alpha ruler, but the council is outside requesting for your presence."

" Take them to study and make them comfortable. I will be there soon."

" Do you even have meetings today?" I asked with a sad face.

"Matilda, I will be present at your wedding." He got up and pecked me in the forehead before leaving.

As soon as my father left, I felt my appetite had gone. I left the half eaten breakfast and rushed upstairs to my room.

I looked at my reflection and gasped at the beauty I had become. I looked like a beautiful princess in the white gown I wore.

I could only imagine what Ethan would think when he saw me. I was so engrossed in admiring myself that I hadn't noticed Aurora.

"Matilda?" She called,"we have to leave now, everyone is waiting for you." She informed me.

I got excited at the thought of everyone waiting to meet me, immediately I checked my face one last time before leaving.

I spotted Ethan first before my dad, he wore a black tuxedo and looked handsome but as I looked closer I observed he didn't have a smile. I was concerned and immediately made up my mind to ask him what the matter was.

As soon as I got downstairs, I wasn't given the opportunity to meet him. The priest started the wedding and I just had to give up the idea of asking him, especially as I knew that we would begin to leave together in the next few hours. Only the thought of spending my life with Ethan got me really excited and goosebumps filled my skin but little did I know that it was just the beginning of a bad phase.
