“Levanna remember to always look left and right before you cross the road, okay, I may not always be here to remind you, baby”
“Okay mummy”
“Come on, let's go before your dad starts getting grumpy at home”
Little levanna giggles
“Yes daddy can get very grumpy….oops don't tell him I said that,”levanna says giggling
“I won't “
“You promise?”
“Pinky promise.”
“Okay”
…
It was a cold night, as both mother and daughter got into the car after a quick stop to get ice cream
If only they knew the tragedy that was to befall them.
“Mummy they gave me the mint choco ice cream, I told you I wanted strawberry” little levanna complained after opening her can of frozen ice cream.
“Oh I'm so sorry baby, but it's already late, we can't go back now but you can take my vanilla,” Mrs Vale said starting the car engine and moving out of the cold cream parking lot.
“No! I want strawberry I've cream NOW, NOW, NOW!!!” Little levanna cried out throwing a tantrum in the back seat.
Mrs vale looked back, losing focus on the road wondering how quickly levanna always seemed to lose her temper.
“Levanna baby, it's okay, I'll get them to deliver it to us tomorrow morning okay?” Mrs Vale said trying to pacify her but the little girl remained stubborn.
“Turn the car around now mummy, I want strawberry ice cream now”
Mrs. Vale looked forward as she heard the loud blast of a horn, she avoided a fast-approaching car, she made a quick swerve causing her car to jerk forward at the force, in the process little levanna came flying forward, pouring her ice cream all over herself.
Mrs vale looked back at her daughter, thinking how that was a close call
The car was still in motion as they descended from a slightly sloped road.
She focused back on the road before she softly reprimanded levanna for distracting her.
Little levanna who didn't take well to corrections wailed even more as she was even more irritated now due to the ice cream covering her dress.
“Go away mummy, this is your fault” the ten-year-old screamed at her mother
“ I wish you would leave me alone”
Mrs Vale winced at the sound of her daughter's voice due to her sensitive ears.
She didn't pay mind to her Child’s words-Levanna was a bit of an over-pampered child.
But she would be lying if she said it didn't hurt.
“Levanna I-”
Before she could finish her words the car suddenly jerked forward with force, moving at an accelerating speed
She tried pressing the brakes to stop the vehicle but it wasn't working.
Oh no
The car was moving at an alarming rate at the moment.
Mrs Vale became confused.
While little levanna who was still oblivious to the predicament she and Mum were in, was still sobbing loudly in the backseat.
Mrs vale tried to get her head together to think of what to do, she couldn't possibly die here tonight,
More importantly, she couldn't let levanna die here tonight.
No.
She had to protect her, she must protect her. She was the one.
She pressed harder on the brake pedal but still nothing, The car kept accelerating more and more.
Mrs Vale looked at her daughter who was slowly becoming quiet as if realizing what was going on.
She looked up at the sky and saw that it was a crescent moon night.
She said a deep silent heartfelt prayer as she looked up at the moon.
“Please protect us,” she said softly as a single tear slid down her face from her pale green eyes
“Mummy, mummy what's going on?
You're driving the car too fast”
Mrs vale looked at her daughter as she suddenly started seeing her life flash before her eyes, memories, her parents, her community, her husband, her baby boy and her husband and her little levanna
No, this wasn't how tonight was supposed to go, they just went to get food and ice cream. She couldn't leave behind her baby boy just like that, her husband?
She had people she needed to protect, she had things and decrease she had yet to let out
No.
She thought again, this time fiercer and with more determination.
She looked at Levanna as she gripped the steering wheel tighter.
“Nothing's wrong, nothing’s gonna happen, baby, now I’m gonna need you to sit down and buckle up your seatbelt okay? Can you do that for me? Mrs Vale said calmly despite the pressing situation as she gave little Levanna her best motherly smile of assurance.
“Okay” Little Levanna nodded as she quickly did as she was told noticing the gravity of what was about to happen
With a newfound zeal, Mrs vale looked forward prepared to face the challenge head-on.
She steadied the car despite the fast pace at which it was going with the steering wheel, luckily they weren't cars in sight as this was usually a busy road.
Mrs Vale thought it was strange but she brushed that aside.
She thought to herself that as she approached a more leveled ground she would grab the emergency handbrake and quickly put it on the park, forcing the car to halt.
It was risky as the car might tumble or cause sparks but she had no other option, she couldn't jump out, the car was moving too fast and besides levanna was with her.
As Mrs. Vale was thinking about the different outcomes, she didn't notice a couple of trucks and vehicles approaching them at top speed.
She looked up and noticed the people in the vehicles approaching specifically their eyes.
Mrs Vale gasped suddenly becoming numb to her environment, she quickly looked back at levanna and told her that no matter what she saw or heard, she was not to open her eyes.
It all seemed to happen in slow motion as Mrs vale unbuckled her seatbelt and went through with her plan of stopping the car.
Levanna shut her eyes tightly as she cried silently in fear.
Mrs vale grabbed the handbrake as the car jerked forward hard! The tires made screeching sounds as levanna flew a bit forward but was held back by her seat belt, Mrs Vale hit her head hard on the steering wheel but she didn't even flinch at the impact and the car came to a sudden halt.
She quickly looked back at levanna as blood poured out of her forehead due to the hit.
“Levanna, are you okay?” she asked almost desperately as she reached out to grab her daughter and hug her.
“Mummy-”
“Shh…. We're gonna be okay now” Mrs vale said
“But we need to get out of her-”
But before she could even breathe a sigh of relief,
She felt an impact so hard, it caused her to fly into the passenger seat of the car.
She heard levanna scream before she even realized what happened.
People usually say when they're in an accident or are about to die, it all happens in slow motion, as everything unfolds right before your eyes
But she now knew that that was all bullshit.
All this was happening at lightning speed and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
She had failed to protect her baby girl, if only she knew this would happen, she wouldn't have come out tonight.
The car tumbled from the force of the impact sending her flying everywhere as the glass broke and the fuel tank started leaking out, it would soon explode.
She looked at levanna who was squeezed in the back seat, oh her poor girl.
I'm sorry levanna
“I'm so sorry” she cried as she used her last strength to untangle from the car as it had been flipped over.
Blood leaked from everywhere on her body, she had broken bones and torn flesh
She winced as she twisted and pushed the door open
Her tears flowed freely as she somehow managed to take the daughter out of the car
Little levanna opened her eyes and saw her mother trying to carry and somehow push her out of the car, she cried and held onto her knowing what she was trying to do.
Mrs Vale smiled at her daughter, she had lost her strength and was slowly slipping.
But before she closed get eyes for the last time, she used every fiber in her being to hug levanna and whispered a few words to her
“I love you my levanna”
“A-always and forever”
“Pinky promise”
Something sparked and before levanna could respond to her mother she was pushed away from her as the car caught fire and was set ablaze
Mrs vale managed one last heartbreaking smile as she looked up at the crescent moon and said
“Please protect her”
The fire engulfed Mrs Vale as the flames licked her body and poor little levanna’s heart as she practically watched her mother being burnt to death.
She screamed and tried to run into the fire but was held back by someone
She cried as she spoke
“Mummy, mummy”
“Please d-don't go away”
“Please don't leave me”
“I-I love you”
“Mummy”
“I'm sorry”
And with that, she fell limp and blacked out.
