Chapter 1 - chapter 1

It was a lazy summer day and it was an even weirder one because summer was normally active and loud. St Michelson Hospital was blistering with activities, people were being admitted and others were being discharged.

It was in the midst of the active world that Jane finally blinked and woke up from her comatose state, feeling severe pain all over her body. After two weeks of unconsciousness, she finally managed to open her eyes and now found herself in a strange environment, her first thought was how uncomfortable she was. It didn’t take long before she realized it was a hospital ward!

She was still struggling with the pain and discomfort she was feeling when she noticed someone sitting beside her, she managed to turn her head and found it was a strange man who looked like he was in his late 20s, handsome but strange nevertheless.

The man looked like he was relieved to see her awake. His joy was so evident that he couldn’t even keep it in.

“How are you doing?” The voice said and she only nodded, holding her head in pain because she couldn’t speak with the pain that pounded in her skull.

Jane looked around and saw she was the only one in the room with the strange man, there were also no other beds in the ward, so she was suddenly suspicious.

Jane sat up, her defenses getting up with her, she ignored the pain in her head and directed her gaze to the strange smiling man.

“Who are you?” She asked and her voice came out in a hoarse tone.

“Don’t hurt yourself. Just relax, I'm not a bad person” the stranger man reassured her and resettled her on the bed. She tried to resist his assistance but she was too weak so she succumbed to his help.

The strange man went on to introduce himself as Jackson and explain how his driver had run over her with his vehicle two weeks ago.

After his brief explanation, things in Jane's head began to unblock and fragments of what had happened fell into place causing her more pain.

She remembered hearing moans coming from her room when she returned from the store,  she also recalled rushing into the room with panic and fear in her heart, scared of what was going on, and when she had gotten to the door of the room, the room she shared with her husband. All she could hear was the loud moans of a female she wished and prayed it was two strangers invading her home rather than any other reasonable reason.

She had pushed the door open with fear in her heart of what awaited her on the other side. Nothing prepared her for the sight of Austin, her husband on bed butt naked with another woman on her bed!  They were so intimate and invested in their activity that they didn't notice her presence.

She had stood at the door, distraught, heartbroken, and betrayed. To think it was their anniversary that day. To think of the joy she had felt when coming to celebrate her third anniversary of marriage with this cheater.

She was in so much pain that she didn't know if she should flare up or keep calm but she remained at the door, quiet and shattered.

Jane was in tears, her body, hands, and feet were trembling, and she couldn’t fathom the reason for what just happened. She felt it was a dream and she wanted badly for someone to wake her up.

Austin was oblivious and shut out from reality. He was so engrossed in his hot love making and as he chased sexual pleasure, Jane's tears streamed down continuously.

Jane couldn't take it anymore, she called Austin's name and he paused. He looked up and saw Jane. He stopped the lovemaking and slowly she salverform his face and that of the woman who  she now recognized to be Sloane his ex-fiancéee

“Sloane!” She said, exasperated.

She was so heartbroken and felt like her whole marriage was a lie, to imagine it was her husband's ex-fiancée who had left him broken and distraught. When she had met him he had been at a floor level state and she had been the cause.

Austin was shocked seeing her but didn't feel any remorse. After recovering from his surprise, he was indifferent and even went as far as kissing the other lady in front of her without thinking about how she felt.

“Get over yourself Jane, you’ve never given me what I wanted,” he said and I shook my head feeling betrayed.

Jane was so shocked and felt like a living corpse, she wondered how quickly her emotions left her. She felt sick in her stomach at how intimate they were, the man she loved was doing these things to her.

She wanted to say something but couldn’t, she felt dead inside and had hatred for this vile human being called Sloane. She died her first death right there and she just looked at him, the hurt eating away at her. Her mind was in a state of chaos.

“So you won’t even propose an explanation? You won’t say anything about your betrayal!! How dare you bring a woman to our house! Our bed!” She cried out.

“Do not act innocent and don’t refer to her as a woman, add some respect,” Austin said without any remorse in his expression.

He stood up and put on his panties, Sloane lay lazily on the bed a stupid smile on her face.

“You never thought he loved you, did you, Jane?” She asked vileness and bitterness entrenched in her voice. Jane stood there perplexed, she had believed he loved her, she was sure he was in love with her.

She watched Austin get dressed then go to the drawers and pick up an envelope from inside it. He tossed it at her and alongside a pen. She stared strangely at him

Jane picked it up and quietly opened it, wanting badly to leave the room. She opened it hastily and went through the contents only to discover it was divorce papers! Her hands began to tremble and horror erupted in her mind.

She looked up at him with teary eyes and immediately she bolted from the room hearing laughter from behind her, down the stairs and out to the streets.

She didn’t know where she had been going but she wanted very much to not be in the same space with Austin. The next thing she remembered was a loud car beep, flash of car headlights and she saw black.
